How are car windscreens fitted?

Your windscreen technician will check for any damage around the working area and then proceed with the replacement.

They will inspect and clean new windscreen to check for any damage and prep it for fitting.

Then your windscreen specialist will remove all relevant mouldings and trims from vehicle to allow access to to the glass.

They will be very careful to decide which method is best for removal of old windscreen This could be with the use of hand tools or newer practices like fibre line tools.

Next the old glass is carefully removed and they prep the area for the new glass fitting. This area has to be completely clean as they will apply primers for the glue where necessary.

The technician will then apply the urethane to the body or glass depending on vehicle and install the new windscreen.

At the end they will re-apply all trims and mouldings.

Last but nit least, they will re-install your interior mirror and any sensors your car may have.

How long does a windscreen replacement take?

Your windscreen replacement should take between 30-60 minutes. Your technician will complete paperwork with you and take a payment in that time.

You will be advised on the day when it will be safe to drive your car again. Windscreen adhesives need time to cure. This can be 60-90 minutes in fine weather, or up to 4 hours in winter.

Can the chip in my windscreen be repaired?

We use a £1 coin to judge the size and severity of your windscreen damage. If the chip in your windscreen is smaller or roughly the same size as the coin, we can normally repair it (instead of a full windscreen replacement).
